Reiki
Pronounced Ray-Kee, this form of hands on healing originates from Japan
and Dr Mikao Usui, a Chrisitian Minister and head of a Japanese University,
who rediscovered this art of healing during a 21 day fasting retreat
on Mount Kurama.
Reiki is a spiritual form of healing during which the divine conciousness
know as REI guides the universal life engergy, KI, (known as Chi in
China) to the recipient. This is achieved through the channelling of
the energy by the Reiki Practitioner. Reiki is a supreme conciousness
and therefore knows exactly what is needed by each individual and which
areas are in need of healing.
During a Reiki treatment a practitioner will place his or her hands
in a series of positions, either touching, or just above the body. Treatments
can take between 15 - 90 minutes, during which time many people find
themselves so relaxed that they often drift into a peaceful sleep. It
is recommended that several reiki treatments are received, however one
reiki treament, regardless of the time between that and the next, will
have a beneficial result.
Reiki is not a religion in itself, nor is it affiliated to any religion.
Any person, of any race or religion can benefit from the receipt of
reiki energy and regardless of whether they are spiritual in nature
or not.
