First short film edit
After reading some of the work of Angela Summerfield yesterday regarding the forest as a creative space I went exploring the track that runs through the forest. Here the path was very clear, follow the man made track, or risk falling into some very deep looking bogs and watery holes, not something you want to do when you're on your own. This also brought up some feelings that often bring me back to Rebecca Solnit's work amongst others, of this line between feeling unsure, even scared, but also wanting to explore. And as the ground around me became more familiar over time, so that fear subsided a little. So is it not the ground around you that you afraid of but the unfamiliar, the unknown. This is very similar to the findings in our women walking research, that contrary to my own beliefs, not everyone feels at peace in the forest, we feel more relaxed in environments that are most familiar to us, even if that is the hustle and bustle of the city, which might seem overwhelming to others.
And so, amongst the forest and the midges, I gathered together some initial pieces of footage. No drone footage as yet as I needed to see where the edge of the no-fly zone was and to make a plan for what I wanted to film. So this is a short first film edit. There is still much to learn but I am getting used to sharing the experience, mistakes, rough cuts and all as this is a development process, not a polished article.
