Residency planning

I am really excited to be spending 10 days at Cove Park on an open artist residency at the end of August. Set within 50 acres of land amongst the beautiful landscape of Argyll and Bute this time will give me an opportunity to explore movement in the forest, by the lochs and in the mountains and how to capture the vastness of the landscape against the individual.

This planning time has been spent looking at maps, reading Rebecca Solnit and Nan Shepherd, thinking about what it means to be lost and what emotions arise in us when we are lost, on purpose or otherwise.

"Lost really has two disparate meanings. Losing things is about the familiar falling away, getting lost is about the unfamiliar appearing. There are objects and people that dissapear from your sight or knowledge or possession; you lose a bracelet, a friend, the key. You still know where you are. Everything is familiar except that there is one item less, one missing element. Or you get lost, in which case the world has become larger than your knowledge of it. Either way, there is a loss of control." ~ Rebecca Solnit, A Field Guide to Getting Lost, pg. 22

I'm really looking forward to the vastness of space, mentally and physically and what this space will allow for....stay tuned.
